The Story of LBB

Little Black Brooch is a costume jewellery, bespoke fabric and greeting card design studio based in Byron Bay, Australia. Below is the ‘story’ behind LBB, the vision, the magic…The blog itself is an extension of LBB, an outlet for me to share my inspirations, creative influences, favourite books and photographs. A scrapbook of colour and wonder. A chance to share some of the ideas behind my jewellery and fabric designs.

Only the faintest hint of popcorn remains in the night air. The rubes have all but left the black and gold striped tent. Their hearts enchanted and their minds intoxicated by the wonders that befell them inside. A show, so spectacular, so visceral and magical, that by morning, only a few wisps of macabre wonderment will remain.

A show of smoke and mirrors, courtesans and clowns, top hats and tails and French vintage gowns. Gaslights and greasepaint, harlequins and heathens. Earl grey at dawn to soothe red curtain fevers. Brass keys and honey bees. Black birds of prey. Silver laced lovers entwined in moons bay.

Shy bearded beauties, kissing mid western geeks. Diamonds and demons and bold tattooed freaks. Frills, and spills and boys with gills. Grotesque sailors. Victorian tailors. Crystal elephants with bright golden tusks. Vintage parlours and Prestige and Lust.

Seven veils and lizard girl tails. Gypsy fortunes, cards and curse. The Edwardian lady and her fine silk purse. The flying trapeze, the magicians tease. The burlesque bustle, the hassle, the hustle. Vaudeville pageantry, The brass menagerie, trash and dirt and spit and glitter. Flamingos and rhinestones and  opening night jitters.

Sweet tidy accents laced with violets and rum, the rose of Siam, feathers and fun. Prancers and ponies, cameos and pearls. The gin palace, sequins, and Golden Age curls. Chandeliers  and corsets and cowgirls that sing. The Charleston, the Cha Cha, the Mambo, and Swing.

The list goes beyond this, as you would respect. Open your eyes, your heart and expect, the most, the least, and all in between, welcome to a world that is yet to be seen…

Little Black Brooch.
